It is said that it was done on the basis of Divide & Rule policy of the British, dividing the Hindus & the Muslims. In 1911, Bengal was again reunited by King George V due to Swadeshi Movements & riots.
In 1947, at the time of independence & Partition Of India, Bengal was again divided into West Bengal of India & East Bengal of Pakistan. East Bengal was East Pakistan from around 1955 to 1971. After Bangladesh Liberation War (Muktijuddho in Bengali), in 1971, East Pakistan became Bangladesh.
